The Nature of The Album

Many people begin by thinking that this is a concept album, but it isn't. Rather, it began more as a collection of stories about space, all of which bore little actual relationship to each other. It then occurred to me that light seemed to be a unifying theme.

Leaving Planet Earth

This signifies the beginning of our journey into space and the anticipation of the trip to come.

Sacred Geometry

When I wrote this I intended it as a celebration of the elegance with which everything seems to work in harmony in the universe at large, and of how this can be expressed mathematically. I don't actually consider this harmony to be sacred at all. It just seems to be a very human habit to perceive things that are misunderstood as being sacred in some way.

The Nature Of Light

It was my intention to express the wonder that is starlight and its total domination over our existence. It never ceases to amaze me how much time it takes light to travel over great distances. It has long been known that some of the stars we can see no longer exist and the light we can still see is from the distant past.

Airlock

This comes from an idea I had about the discovery of a long lost space craft which has been found decades after it disappeared. Explorers decide to dock with the ship and in so doing, have to cross a long tunnel on foot to get to the entry point. The music expresses the anticipation and indeed the dread of what they may find there, as they begin their crossing in zero gravity...

Distant Planet

This tune came into being based on a vivid dream about leaving my body and floating up into space. The changes in the tune map out various parts of the trip. Unfortunately during the journey, I find that I'm unable to return to Earth and am therefore left to drift endlessly in space. The end of the piece finds an acceptance, even joy when thinking of the adventure to come.

Ph0tonbucket

This charts a trip on a very special space craft designed to capture light energy from stars and then transport it to where it can be used. This process is considered tricky to say the least.

The Place Where Stars Are Born

I wanted to end the album with a sense of continuation. As one star dies, another is created and so light and life can go on.

I hope you enjoy the free download of the title track.

There are also samples of the other tracks from the album to listen to.

The full versions are available to buy on both CD and in download formats.
